Secondary-screening detectors for use after a walk-through gate, at event entrances, and wherever an officer needs to locate a concealed metallic object on a person or inside a package.
Handheld detectors are the second layer after a walk-through gate, and often the only equipment deployed at smaller checkpoints. What matters operationally is that the officer can sweep accurately for a full shift: a light unit with a stable, repeatable response and no ambiguous signals.
The MD-3003B1 weighs 409 g and runs on a single 9 V battery, standard or rechargeable. Detection is signalled by audio tone and a red LED, with a silent vibration mode for noisy environments or for screening where an audible alarm would draw attention.
A low-sensitivity switch suppresses small items such as coins, keys and pins while still alarming on handguns and knives, which is what most checkpoints actually want. Sensitivity is tuned in seconds with a single adjuster, and no calibration equipment is required.

Not by material, but the low-sensitivity mode does. In that mode the detector ignores small items such as coins, keys and pins and responds only to larger metal objects such as handguns and knives.
The unit runs on a 9 V battery with a current draw under 50 mA. Actual battery life depends on the battery used and how often alarms are triggered. Rechargeable cells charge in four to six hours and the unit must be switched off while charging.
The operating range is -5 to +55 degrees Celsius and the housing is a hand-held format that works with gloves. For permanent outdoor checkpoints we recommend confirming the specific model against your climate and handling requirements.
No calibration equipment is needed. Sensitivity is tuned with the adjuster: turn clockwise until the red LED lights, then counter-clockwise until it goes out.
